Imbolc And The Full Moon

February 1st is a gentle turning point in the year, it is the time for Imbolc as we celebrate the return of the light after winter and honour the cycles of nature, Imbolc is also the awakening of spring and new growth and life returns after a period of stillness, new buds appear on the trees, we see the Snowdrops and Daffodils starting to bloom, we feel the longer days approaching and the seeds planted in winter will come to bloom soon in the spring.

Imbolc this year is even more special as the full moon also known as the snow moon rises on the evening of February 1st so as we celebrate new beginnings the snow moon will be lightening the way. According to the old farmers Almanac the explanation behind Februarys full moon is a fairly simple reason, it is known as the snow moon due to the typically heavy snowfall that occurs in February.

Ways I Am Celebrating Imbolc And The Snow Moon

  • I am creating my own cozy self love evening. February is typically associated with romantic love, but we often neglect one of the most important forms of love- self love. So I am going to create a cozy evening with candles, a hot bath, a DIY manicure and pedicure, face mask, journaling, reading a book and yes some chocolates.
  • meditating- To sit with my thoughts and take a moment to reflect, as it is only in stillness that we fully see what is happening.
  • connect with nature – I am going to spend some time outdoors, connecting with the earths natural rhythms. I am going to take time to stop and appreciate the signs of spring, watch the trees as they sway in the breeze and breathe in the fresh air.
  • Plan my Garden – If it’s a nice day I am going to go outside and clear up my garden, pull up all the weeds and dead plants, sweep up the fallen leaves and start planning my garden for spring.
  • As soon as I see the Daffodils in shops, I will buy some to bring home and welcome in the spring energy.

Closing Thoughts

I hope I have given you a few ideas on how to celebrate this time of year. Remember Imbolc isn’t about rushing ahead or forcing change, you don’t need to do everything at once. It’s about appreciating and honouring where you are. Releasing what feels heavy and trusting that growth is quietly happening even if you can’t see it.

If winter feels long or emotionally draining, let this remind you rest is productive, release is powerful and spring is coming.
