Beating Those January Blues
January is here, the air is crisp and fresh and you get a chance to watch the winter sunrise without having to get up too early. January is a slow month, the Christmas / Yule celebrations bring us so much joy during the hardest part of the year but once all the lights are down and the carols have stopped we are left with everything looking bare and we are left with the quiet stillness of the season and it is a beautiful time.
Everything in nature is still, nature is sleeping and it is time to embrace this and to live in harmony with the season. So it is a month where we just need to take a deep breath, slow down and reflect, reset, look inwards, a time to embrace rest for the body and mind, let your thoughts flow, think about your intentions and plant seeds so they are ready to bloom in spring with the flowers as nature awakens.
I have never liked New Years Resolutions because we are going against our natural rhythm and the vast majority don’t make it past the end of January, so instead I like to set intentions for the year. It invites me to ask “what truly matters to me?” and “What can I do to become the best version of myself ?” I like to look at them as not about achieving but about evolving as a person to connect with my higher self.
January is a time for renewal to release anything that does not serve me and to look forward to the blessings that this year will bring. It is a time for spring cleaning not only for your own personal space but also for your mind and spirit.
Ways I Beat The January Blues
- Spring clean – January is a time for renewal to release anything that does not serve me and invite the new blessings in for the year.
- Connect With Nature – I know nature is sleeping, but I want to enjoy time outside on a cold day when the sky is blue and the sun is shining and just simply be and embrace the stillness.
- connect with my food more – Learn to make things like bread from scratch. I am not a chef or a baker I know there will be flops but that is part of the fun of learning, no it is probably not going to come out looking like a social media picture but it is not meant to, the whole intention is a healthier lifestyle and to give up more processed food.
- Gratitude Journaling – It is something that I have done from time to time but this year I am doing it everyday. It really does change your mindset and help turn your thoughts more positive.
A Few Closing Words
so there are no January blues for me, instead I have chosen to embrace the season and now I am starting to notice that it’s not dark by four so the days are slowly getting longer, the Daffodils and the snowdrops are starting to spring up and it won’t be long and I will soon start to notice the buds coming through on the tress, nature is slowly awakening and I know that I will be ready to bloom with nature and I can say goodbye to the old version of myself and step into the new and embrace every moment.
