A Fairy Winter

I love these chilly frosty mornings, when you wake up and look out the window and see a beautiful white frost, we don’t get many of them so when we do get them I like to embrace the beauty and energy of them.

I love the white blanket covering the grass, and how the sunlight looks like a disco ball when it hits the icy frost. When you go out the warmth of your house to the crisp atmosphere and hear the crunch beneath your feet as you walk over the frosty crunchy leaves.

The world seems to slow down during winter and there is something captivating about the science and stillness of the winter, it is a time that often goes unnoticed in the fast passed hustle and bustle of everyday life. I take this time to connect with the natural world and recognise the beauty of simplicity and stillness.

There is nothing like wrapping up warm and going out for a walk or a riding hack, yes riding during the winter can be relaxing. Yes we have to be more cautious as visibility, ground conditions are unpredictable and roads can be slippery and we can’t go too fast on frozen ground, but making your way across a frosty landscape can be magical. When I go out for walks or hacks I like to look for little signs of life and pops of colour and I watch how the birds fly around looking for the red berries and I feel so much more alive and energised when I go outside.

I know these winter months can be difficult but now that the longest night has passed, we are welcoming the return of the sun and I am noticing as the days are slowly getting longer. During the slow winter months I like to use this time for inner work, a chance to connect with myself and take time to rest and reflect, this time of year is important to take time for self care, think about everything I would like to accomplish this year so I can plant the seeds so just like nature they are ready to bloom later in the year.
